With packraft in the wild: one-day rafting on the Postomia River – a new variant

Welcome to the next episode of the series With packraft in the wild. This time Robert Bogusz recommends a new variant of rafting on the Postomia River.

Recommended route:

I have written about the water trail on the Postomia River and the Warta Mouth National Park before (HERE). This time the proposed route is a classic packrafting, that is, a combination of hiking and rafting. The beginning of the trail is the Pump Station in S這雟k. Heading south, reach the bridge over the Postomia River and then turn left (east). The embankment will lead us to the next bridge, from which we will start the water part. On the waterway we will pass under a bridge and leave the river itself just before the second bridge (near Przyborowo), where the Postomia River joins the Old Warta River. The old Warta River will enable us to reach our starting point that is the Pump Station in S這雟k.

Course of the route – walking part and the main part of the rafting trip (elaborated by. Robert Bogusz)

The total proposed route is less than 12 km (3.5 km access to the water, 6.5 km swimming, 1.68 km to the starting point after the end of the rafting trip) and leads among meadows.

Difficulty

The route is generally very easy. You may find useful the data on the strength and direction of the wind, which can make rafting on the Old Warta difficult. In addition, as you approach the Pump Station in S這雟k, the bed of the Old Warta River becomes more and more overgrown with nenufar and yellow water lilies. Nevertheless, you can canoe all the way to the pumping station, or, as indicated in this text, end your canoeing about 300 meters earlier and take the rest of the way (about 1.7 km) on your feet.

Rafting time

5 hours is enough for the route.

Accommodation

In the situation of planning a one-day rafting trip, an overnight stay is not necessary. However, it is worth considering staying in the area for a few days. Established in 2001. The “Warta Mouth” National Park is designed to protect one of the most important sanctuaries for water and marsh birds in Poland. Some of them we will certainly see during the rafting trip. It is certainly worth seeing the hiking trail marked out on the so-called. concretes. When crossing the Warta River by packraft or ferry at the level of Klopotow, you can take a walk along the trails of the Northern Polder. It is not excluded that we will meet wolves there. The Pump Station in S這雟k and its twin counterpart in Kostrzyn on the Oder are worth exploring, as well as the Kostrzyn Fortress complex with forts Czarnów, Gorgast, Sarbinowo and Zabice.
